South China Morning Post – Why soft skills are more important than ever – searching for a new breed of leaders
Tougher regulation, swift technological advances and volatile global markets call for a new breed of leader, notes Rajeev Vasudeva, Chief Executive Officer of Egon Zehnder in an interview with the South China Morning Post. In his opinion, the focus has shifted from hard skills and functional expertise to soft skills like inspiring and engaging teams. The new breed of business leader also needs to be able to identify risks and business trends fast, warns Vasudeva. Against this background, he highlights the importance of helping existing business leaders to reinvent themselves. Turning to Asia, Vasudeva identifies succession planning for family businesses as a key issue, with founders poised to hand over the reins to the next generation at many Asian and Chinese companies. Vasudeva, the first Indian to head Egon Zehnder, which has its roots in Europe, also highlights the need for global organizations to embrace diversity at the top of the leadership ladder.
