Based in Melbourne, Gerard Connell is active across Egon Zehnder’s Consumer, Technology, and Industrial practices. He conducts board and senior executive searches, management assessments and provides accelerated integration support to leaders transitioning into new roles. Drawing on over 15 years of international automotive experience, Gerard also belongs to the Firm’s global Automotive & Mobility practice.

Prior to joining Egon Zehnder, Gerard was responsible for retail strategy for electric vehicles at General Motors in Detroit, overseeing the eCommerce-led transformation of that company’s U.S. retail operations and customer experience. Previously, he led sales and marketing for OnStar, GM’s connected vehicle subscription service. Gerard began his career with GM Holden in Melbourne, where he held various marketing, sales and customer experience leadership roles. He is deeply knowledgeable about future mobility trends, direct-to-consumer businesses, and digital platform development and is passionate about helping to drive the growth of Australia’s electric vehicle market.
Gerard earned a business degree from the Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne. In addition to his work as a consultant, he actively mentors young business leaders. Away from work, Gerard enjoys keeping fit, keeping up with geopolitics, and spending as much time as possible outdoors with his wife and their two young daughters.
