Agenda – Six-Point Plan to Support New CEOs
Even when new CEOs are appointed thanks to well-crafted succession plans, their first few months on the job can be tough, warns George Davis, Leader of Egon Zehnder’s Global CEO Practice. In an article for the Financial Times’ Agenda service, Davis identifies six ways for boards to support CEOs in their first 100 days and maximize their chances of success. These strategies include continuing the CEO’s personal development, discouraging go-it-alone heroics, following through on promises to unsuccessful internal candidates, watching the brand, looking ahead and managing expectations. Although these steps won’t eliminate the pitfalls facing new CEOs, they will help to lower risks in a sensitive period, writes Davis.
