Based in Boston, Ed Young is active in Egon Zehnder’s Industrial practice with a special focus on utilities, power, and renewables. Drawing on two decades of experience as a senior strategy executive in the electric and gas sectors across North America, Europe, and Asia, he brings experience supporting publicly traded and private capital-backed enterprises. Ed leverages deep expertise in the utility and competitive power industry to help clients fill and cultivate CEO and commercial leadership roles. He is especially passionate about developing leadership talent and building great teams to spearhead decarbonization and the energy transition.

Prior to joining Egon Zehnder, Ed was a director with National Grid, focusing on strategy, business performance, leadership and transformation in the regulated utility and non-regulated National Grid Ventures. Most recently as the company’s Director for the Future of Electric, Ed was tasked with developing a roadmap for transforming the New England electric business. Earlier, Ed was a Strategy Manager at InterGen, a competitive international power producer, and led the China energy research and consulting practice at S&P Global.
Ed earned an MBA from MIT’s Sloan School of Management, an MPA from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, an MA in China Studies from the University of London, and an MA in modern history from the University of Oxford. Outside of work, Ed enjoys traveling widely with his wife and two children, and spending time outdoors cycling, hiking, and skiing. Ed is also a guest lecturer at MIT.
