Financial Times – UK Loses Board Diversity Momentum

The gender diversity dynamic at board level lost impetus in the UK last year, reports the Financial Times. Women accounted for just 29 percent of UK board hires in 2016, down from 32.1 percent in 2014, according to Egon Zehnder’s Global Diversity Board Analysis. Not only has the rate of female board appointments dipped below the level of 2011, when the 25 percent target for the FTSE 100 was set, but the number of women on FTSE 100 executive committees has also stagnated. “A modern organisation is only as successful as its leadership’s ability to navigate a near-constant state of change and the momentum for achieving gender parity is simply not occurring at the pace of progress required,” noted Rajeev Vasudeva, chief executive of Egon Zehnder.
